The Internal Medicine Residency Training Program of the Department of Medicine at the University of British Columbia recognized a need to establish a program for international health. This program would provide an intense learning experience for the young doctors, but in addition, the program would establish protocols and care pathways, provide training and skill development and enhance the local research capacity at the Donald Fraser Hospital in Limpopo Province, South Africa.
